Ozone Pollution Education Network (OPEN)Unlike the protective ozone layer in the stratosphere, ground-level ozone is a toxic air pollutant that impacts all living organisms. OPEN is a network of scientists, educators, and managers dedicated to improving the awareness of ground-level ozone and its impacts on living things. We strive to inform communities of the health and ecological risks caused by ozone pollution, and to help people find ways to reduce their impact.

Ozone Bioindicator GardensOzone bioindicator gardens are specially designed to show how ozone pollution damages plants. The gardens include specific plants that are sensitive to ozone pollution and show visible signs of ozone damage, serving as a “canary in a coal mine” for ozone pollution. Gardens are planted at locations throughout the world, and citizen scientists are helping to collect data by categorizing the severity of ozone damage on the leaves of plants in our gardens.
